The fact you can't go from a screen to another screen is very strange... Explain more your problem.

To begin with DinkC I suggest you read Someone's DinkC Tutorial.

The Prowler-Pro (sic) FAQ is really interesting, and I think there's something in it about going outside from a house.

To go outside from a house, house need to place an invisible teleporter. To make something invisible, press 1 in DinkEdit after selecting a sprite, and enter the value '2'.
For the warp, press '0' or '9' (can't remember) to make the sprite become sprite a teleporter, and then type Shift + '1' to enter the map to teleport Dink to, Shift + '2' and Shift + '3' to enter the x and y coord to teleport Dink to in the new screen.
I think this can be found in the FAQ (better explained ;).

Then place this teleporter in the door of your house.
An invisible table is often used for it.

Btw, which tutorial did you read?
I know lots of tutorials, and I may help you find the right one.

Bye.

well as far as the problem of going from one screen to the next i simply cannot go from my start screen to the next screen. i have started ove several times and still cannot go to the next screen.

I have downloaded severl tuturials and printed some. ive downloaded CEdit 1.07 easydinkc and sceloton B
ive used dmod help by mike snyder and also several frontend programs. i cannot at this time tell you all the programs i have downloaded because i am not at my home computer right now.

i need the easiest scipting tutorial program there is. simply because alot of it looks alot like greek to me. LOL
although i am still learnin. im not as dumb as i sound I promise :))

thanks amanda

You can get a lot of nifty tutorials here:
http://dink.telefragged.com/down_auth.shtml

One of them is DinkC tutorial:
http://someone2.hypermart.net/dink/dinkc/dinkc.html

It teachs you basic of DinkC

To try to do a new DMOD, the best is to read tut1.txt in the /develop dir of your main dink directory.
It's a step-by-step learning of WinDinkEdit and some DinkC basics.
I really recommend you to try to do it entirely.

After, to start a new DMOD, then install skeleton_b and complete it; there's a lot of comments in the .c files to explain you what it means.

You can also 'rob' the other scripts, so as to study them.
The complete source of Dink .c scripts is in your /develop directory (source.zip).
You can also download some interesting sources of some DMODs at the url in the top of this post.

And if you have some problems you really can't figure out, then post at this forum.

About your problem, I understood that you need to place Dink somewhere when you click on start button, right?
The tut1.txt will explain you how to start a new game.

GoodBye and Good Luck :)

I forgot, Phoenix did a nifty DinkC Editor very usefull for Beginners: you can select the script commands which you want, such as "create a dialog", "change screen / warp", etc.

Easy Dink C v1.2 should be release within some days.

Bye.

Thanks for the comercial Beuc. ;)

But, to baby37405's screen to screen problem:

I've experienced something like that before.
If you set &player_map to a non-existing screen, it will copy the contents of the first screen you made into the non-existing one.
But when you then try to walk to the next screen, which probably doesn't exist either, it doesn't work.
I don't know if this was your problem, but that was my solution.
Oh, btw, remember to set &player_map to the right screen #. ;)

Ah, the memories.

I remember when I was in ur situation! ;)
To make a teleporter, you build the inside of your house somewhere else (like in the very corner of the world) and block it off from the rest of the game, then what I do is take the farm, crop row of dirt thing, make it into a warp by pressing the zero key while holding the sprite, make it so small it is not visible, (press "[" ) and placing it at the exit of the house, do the same for the entrance, and pick up each warp and press "ctrl+w", you should hear a boing sound the first time, this means it worked.

And thats all there is to it!

You know... I've read the suggestion on how to make teleporters leading out of a room several times... and a few other things stating how to make something invisible by using 2 for your Option 2... But I only now caught it. I always just skimmed over it thinking "Yeah yeah, I know that part.." but I only now caught on. I was using 1 for Option 2, and getting mixed results...

I feel pretty dumb right now...

I wonder about one thing, Darius Wolfe...
This post-thread is from around March somewhere...See, the post before yours was posted the 20th of March...
How come you add another post to it NOW? ;)

Why do I respond now? Because I'm new to the forum, and I was reading old posts.. Do I think to realize that the post is old, dead and no one cares? Not really. Look at the times I was posting, and I'm sure you'll understand.
