i dont even think you could do that unless you wrote your own engine and even if you did you couldnt use the dink crap anyway cause the license says you can only use it for dmods. |

Thats only if you want to sell the game that you make though. |

Actually, I don't believe you can use the graphics in any other game (excluding dmods) without permission from rtsoft even if you don't sell it. Now whether rtsoft would actually go after you or not is a different story. |

I just got done reading the stuff off of rtsofts site and seth or whoever says that he doesent even care if you sell what you make as long as you give credit for the people who made the images. Anyway i just got done doing it. What I did was copy all the grahics and sounds and the cd.dat (i have the freeware version)then i copied the dink.exe file and i hid the dink.exe and the cd.dat and i created a batch file to run my d-mod without going to dink front end AND IT WORKED I can play my D-dmod without having anything to do with the original Dink Smallwood.

Ok, I'm really getting interested in this. Now, you're saying I could make it so the game runs solo, doesn't even need Dink at all. PLEASE please please explain.thanks

Yes, it is possible to pack up dink.exe so you don't require any of the original graphics/sounds/etc and make your D-Mod stand-alone (I did this with my Frogger demo to bring it to school, and it fit into a nice 200 kb zip file, standalone, not requiring Dink to be installed on the machine). You don't even need a steenking batch file. Merely place all the stuff that your D-Mod needs into the Dink directory (where the normal Dink usually goes), create an install file, sell it and make a million bucks, right?WRONG. Seth grants thee permission to sell D-Mods. Correct. Seth grants thee permission to sell stand-alone games including dink.exe. WRONG. Seth grants thee permission to let other people download for free stand-along games using dink.exe. WRONG. You cannot repackage dink.exe with any thing that you let other people download, or sell. dink.exe is Seth's property, do not infringe on it. Yes, you can use it to show off your D-Mod to friends. Just don't try to sell it or put it up on the internet. Seth said that he may let people make D-Mods run stand-alone when the community runs down a bit. As for now, work on regular D-Mods. |
