I read the FAQ on making sprites, and got paintshop pro, but I can't open the dir files like it says. Could I get an even simpler walk through of sprite making?

you can't open dir.ff files, for editting, download the graphics in bmp form (you can find it at www.dink.telefragged.com I think) or get them from the Dink CD if you have it.
