I've gotten up to the stage of the 'elevator', and put the green head think in the blue sphere thing - well, it vanished on me anyway when I pressed space on the blue thing with the head selected. But now, I'm stuck. I don't have a clue what to do.

So you lost the head - thats good. Now press the colour in order blue, red, blue , green, red , green. They will light up if u get it right - and dull if you get it wrong.
Dont forget to chat to the duk before you go in.
PS. This was a very disapointing DMod
PPS. And when youve finished try Dinks Doppleganger from www.rtsoft.com/dink/pages/home.htm and please tell me how to get past the guard - I have 400 gold already.

You should never be able to earn enough gold to get past the guard (if I recall). You have to feed him instead. Later in the game, go talk to him and he'll be hungry.

You should catch a worm and find a slayer claw. They can be sold for 100 gold each
